My thesis is titled “بچپن کی یادیں” which translates to “childhood memories” from Urdu. My collection recounts the nostalgia behind treasured memories and moments from our past that shape us.
It is an intimate look into my own memories of growing up in Karachi. Pakistan. I’m inspired by South Asian culture which surrounded me constantly. I hope to empower other South Asian creators and empower Desi women especially. Women deserve to be unapologetic in how they chose to express themselves and I want to show that culture and religion can be embraced despite society’s attempt to judge and criticize us for not expressing it in their standards.
I blend contemporary silhouettes with traditional fabrication and accessories to show that we can embrace our cultural background and still remain modern.
As a designer I’m inspired heavily by personal experiences and emotions.I grew up in Pakistan but have made America a second home today. My collection explores what it means to be a product of two cultures while embracing both.
